At first I was hesitant but nowadays these greens get into my market trolley every week. If you are looking out for something with low calories and yet tasty, then this is it.... Do give it a try, you'll never regret it..... Now lets move on to the recipe......
You will need..........
- 1 bunch of beetroot greens
- 1/2 cup Masoor dal
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 12 garlic pods
- 3 tbsp of raw peanuts
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp chilli powder
- 1/2 tsp curry powder/garam masala
- 1 tsp oil
Soak the masoor dal. Wash the beetgreens well as they not only carry a lot of nutrients but also lots of sand! So wash as many times to get rid of the soil completely. Then cut the leaves into small pieces along with their stem. Mince the garlic pods.
Heat a pressure cooker with a tsp of oil and temper it with cumin seeds. Then add in the minced garlic followed by the greens. Saute them well. Add in the turmeric, salt, chilli and curry powder. Give it a stir. Add in the soaked masoor dal along with a half cup of water and raw peanuts. Close the cooker and allow 3-4 whistles. When the pressure is gone, open and give it a stir. Add water, check salt and spiciness. Adjust and boil them until the desired consistency is reached. Now the beetgreens are ready to top your rice....
